James Wusterbarth

James Wusterbarth has been actively supporting LGBTQ, Hospice, and women's charities and has played a role in fundraising efforts for women's shelters. His relentless pursuit of gender equality and service culminated in receiving the 'Women at Ground Zero Scholarship,' for postgraduate schooling. This prestigious accolade is particularly remarkable for James, as he was the first and only male recipient ever to be honored by the all female selection committee. His passion for education led him to a teaching position at Johns Hopkins Medical School, where he spent two years before transitioning to a role as the FOX5 On-Air Health, Fitness, and Nutrition Editor, reaching an audience of more than 200,000 daily viewers over the next five years. Never one to be confined by conventional career paths, he later dedicated a decade to federal law enforcement after experiencing a personal loss due to gun violence. His work took him to every corner of the United States, dealing with a spectrum of issues building cases and securing convictions against white power groups in Michigan and the Northeast, to child victimizers and street gangs in California, to poachers of endangered wildlife in Arctic Alaska, and running down cartel smugglers operating fastboats at night in the Florida Keys. Subsequently, his adventurous career led him back overseas to the violent Eastern Congo and the Middle East, leveraging his extensive knowledge and experience in challenging environments. Currently based on the waters of the Persian Gulf as an Independent Contractor, he is also fulfilling his long-standing passion for aiding refugees—a cause close to his heart since his early childhood. When his father worked on refugee settlement projects, he often brought along little James to welcome and play with the traumatized child refugees, many of whom had recently been made orphanes, some forced to watch their parents being slaughtered during the Cambodian Genocide. It’s hard to hear that, but it is important. James will never forget playing with all those wide-eyed and sometimes difficult children in the 1970’s and early 1980’s, especially years later as he grew to better understand the horrors and trauma of what they had been through as genocide refugees.
